Don’t Know What To Write About?

August 15th, 2006

It happens to almost everyone at some point - the inevitable writer’s block. Or blogger’s block in my case. Some of you have websites or blogs where the topics are endless and the material just keeps coming in. Others find it hard to come up with a single post because their field is so focused.

If you’re feeling in a slump and got a bit of blogger’s block, try sifting through some of your older posts and see if they can spark some new ideas.

Many times there are points in previous posts that can be elaborated on or updated. Lists can be added to, case studies can be updated with current data, and everything in between can be reviewed to make sure the information still applies.

Another thing you can do is beef up some of your posts and turn them into articles for submission. Or, condense some older articles and turn them into posts. It works well both ways, as long as they aren’t exactly the same.

Also, visit related forums and see what people are talking about and what kind of questions they’re asking. For example, if your blog is about digital cameras, you can visit a digital camera forum and see what new product people are asking about.

If your site is product related, start doing some product reviews. You can even finish off your post with an affiliate link for some extra income. Make sure your reviews are honest or people will see right through you.

Some people get ideas from other less obvious places like newspapers and even TV shows. I get ideas from all sorts of different venues. Magazines, personal experiences, and even interacting with other people can spark some great ideas for new blog topics.

Everywhere you look there are interesting things happening. Hopefully some of them will get your creative side thinking again and the posts will start to flow again. But don’t despair when you feel your ideas have run out. It happens to the best of us. Just keep your eye open for some inspiration.
