Do You Work On The Weekends?

June 14th, 2008

I generally try and take my weekends off (even though I still sneak a look at my traffic stats a few times throughout the days) but I’m wondering if any of you do the same.

Working at home gives us a lot of freedom over when our work hours are, but I find that the days (weekdays and weekends) are more of the same than if I worked out of the home. For instance, I don’t look forward to Fridays as much as most people. My work is AT home so I can’t exactly get away from it. Even when I’m relaxing on the couch with a movie or a book, I can still see the computer out of the corner of my eye and there’s always that nagging feeling like I should be writing something.

Even so, I try and take some well-deserved “me time” which is usually on the weekends so that my leisure time coincides with my friends’ and family’s leisure time. However, I see a lot of my fellow mamas on the web are still diligently writing and posting.

There’s always the auto post feature in Wordpress that allows you to write a post and have Wordpress automatically submit it for you at a later date and time, but I’m not using it today. It’s Saturday and I should be spending time with my family. Instead, I’m sitting here with about 20 tabs open in Firefox and 3 posts on the go.

How about you?

uggg…. yeah.. I always work on the weekends. Or well.. technically I DON’T have weekends. I work for a few reasons there for sure.
I do use the auto post feature to set my blogs for a week or so.. then the next week.. right back at it.. so for some reason, not much of a break.. nor fun.. ugg.
Suppose when I do take a break.. its a big one.. like I travel somewhere for a short period or take a mega break. but working from home.. is not like hanging out in your pjs just chilling all day that is for sure!
Let me know when you are ready for a mega break.. heh?? :)

I’m ready for a mega break RIGHT NOW! :D

And you’re right, even though I happen to be sitting here writing this while I’m in my pajamas (and it’s noon) it isn’t always like that.

I generally take Sundays off. No blogging activities or other writing related projects.

It’s great. We all need a regular period of rest to sustain us.

Jess is right we need a regular period of rest. Mine is completely messed up. Blogging is not my main job, you can see I don’t have that many blogs. I work from home but on weekdays I’m a mom and a travel agent and weekends I can put my mind to some writing if any.
I think I’m ready for a mega break and a big change. I’ve been working and living without weekends for so long.

I’ve noticed that when I work all week and then continue through the weekend that my work suffers. I think we all owe it to ourselves and to our writing that we take regular breaks so we can refresh. Saying that and actually doing it is another story completely though.

I guess that’s something we as individuals have to work on - finding balance between “work” and home. Especially when work IS AT home.
