Before you send out your next newsletter…
November 11th, 2008
One sign of a good chef is one who tastes their own food before sending it out to their paying
customers. This shows that they care about the quality of the product they offer them. They take pride in their work. They don’t want anyone to leave with a negative feeling. They want it to be so good that their customers will tell everyone they know to come and eat at that chef’s restaurant.
You can apply the same logic to your online business. Let’s look at newsletters as an example.
Before you send out your next newsletter to your subscribers, email it to yourself first. Don’t just read it over, email it to yourself. See how it looks in your email program.
Is the subject line attention-grabbing? Does it pique your curiousity and make you want to click?
How about the content. Is it captivating? Exciting? Informative? Are you engaged in it enough to read all the way to the bottom? Is there a call-to-action at the end? Are there any spelling or grammar mistakes that need to be corrected?
Sending out a newsletter should involve a checklist, whether you go through it in your head or have one written down. Much like my blogging checklist. Going through this checklist is much the same as a chef tasting their own food.
