Don’t forget another blog post idea

I was going through the photos on my camera and realized that I haven’t uploaded them to my computer for a long time. I still had some pictures that I took on my trip to British Columbia back in August. I posted some of them over at my personal blog if you’d like to check them out. I usually take horrible pictures but the scenery in BC is so beautiful, it’s hard to take a bad picture.

While I was going through the pictures, I was reminded of some post ideas that I had in my head during the time I took the photos. I hadn’t thought of them in months. I’m normally pretty good at writing down my ideas so I don’t forget them, but I didn’t prepare myself very well before I embarked on my BC trip and I ended up losing most of the ideas that popped into my head.

Here are some ways that you can prevent yourself from making the same mistake:

• Carry a notebook with you wherever you go! You can pick up some cheap and funky looking notebooks at the dollar store. They’re small so they should fit in most purses.
• Use a voice recorder. My mom, who is a reporter, carries one around with her all the time which is great when she’s interviewing someone for a story.
• Use your cell phone. Most cell phones should have an option to create a voice memo. I’ve used this feature many times when I don’t have a pen or my notebook handy. I’ve also used the text memo feature in my phone as well, although it takes longer to use than the voice memo.
• Email yourself. If you’re able to email with your phone, or you have access to a computer while you’re away from home, email yourself your ideas. I’ve also done this many times.

If you happen to be caught in the middle of a forest with no clothes, nothing to write with, no cell phone, and no internet access, and a great idea for a blog post came to mind, the best thing to do would be to say it out loud and repeat it a few times. You’ll have a better chance of remembering it if you say it out loud than if you just say it in your head. That way, when someone comes to rescue your naked ass, you can write it down as soon as you get home.
