I use treepad for all my notes (like affiliate info, etc).
IT is a great little program that can be used like a diary, but also can create folders and add information.
Very low use on your computer – saves everything as a text file.
Super easy to use.

I only have a few affiliate links, but I keep them in a simple Word document. I know it’s not the best way to archive them, but when you only have a few it’s not that big of a deal.

I’ll try OpenOffice when I do a redesign of my blog.

Also, like you said, you should use or at least, try your products you advertise. It’s like if you ask a waiter if something is good on the menu and they say “yes”. When asked if it’s spicy and they say they they’re not sure, you probably won’t trust them anymore.
