Jesse from Robust Writing wrote a post the other day about using cliches in your writing. Since reading that post I’ve been thinking about it a lot. We’ve all used cliches, some of us more than others. If you use them too often, it can drastically cut down the quality of your writing. Thank you Jesse for always providing thought-provoking and memorable posts!
Namecheap has come up with a really cool contest for their customers. If you have a Namecheap account, you can follow them on twitter and have a chance to win prizes from December 1st to December 25th. The prizes are free domains (by using the credits applied to your account after winning), and 3 iPod Nanos. They’re asking trivia questions over twitter every hour so I think the chances of winning at least once are pretty good. I wonder if prizes awarded via Twitter should be called Twizes? I’m sorry, that was really bad but I couldn’t resist.
The reason why I haven’t been too active online in the past few days is because I’ve had my nose stuck in a book the entire time. I’ve had Dreamweaver 8 for a couple years now, but it’s such a complicated (yet amazing) program that I wanted to learn more about how to use it. I spent some time searching around and decided to buy Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 Hands-On Training which is one of many Lynda.com books. I bought a used copy through chapters.indigo.ca.
I’ve been buying through them lately for a few reasons. A) I’m Canadian and so are they! B) I can actually access their website. I can’t log in to Amazon for some reason because my computer stinks. C) I always manage to find amazing deals when I’m shopping on there and I’m extremely cheap so that’s a big bonus for me.
The Hands-On Training series books are cool for anyone who likes to learn by doing. They come with a CD-ROM full of files and videos to work through which really speeds up the learning process for me. I’m looking forward to buying another one soon.
Now I’m off to play with Dreamweaver.
