Show your subscribers some love

When is the last time you thanked your subscribers just for being a subscriber?

Most people love unexpected surprises, and I’m sure they’re especially grateful when they’re recognized for their loyalty. I’m not saying you have to go Oprah and buy a car for each person on your list, but you’ll stand out in their minds if you take some time to say “thank you”.

In this day and age when a lot of internet marketers are building a subscriber base and everyone including Martha from down the street are subscribing to more and more newsletters, it’s important to make sure you stand above the rest. You can do this by sending out a special “bonus” once in awhile.

What these bonuses are depend on your niche of course, but it can be as simple as a short PDF report, or a quick audio or video that they can download. Exclusive information is always a plus – you could divulge an “insider secret” that you’ve never shared before and won’t share with anyone else. You could even mail them a postcard if you have their mailing address. I love getting postcards in the mail!

I’m sure you’ve heard of the phrase, “The money is in the list”. Well behind every pocketbook is a living, breathing human being. Don’t ever forget that. So whatever your bonus is, make sure it’s good. Show them how much you appreciate them by giving them something valuable, something they can benefit from – even if they’ve never spent money with you.

Cassie,

This is a great idea. I’m going to experiment with it myself.

I’ve noticed Abraham Piper using this technique to entice more people to subscribe to his blogs. For example, his latest post at 22 Words is titled:

A giveaway at my wife’s blog for nursing moms…or anyone, really.

He writes:

“Subscribe to Molly’s blog for a chance to win a hip nursing cover.”

Check out the post here:

Great reminder: “behind every pocketbook is a living, breathing human being. Don’t ever forget that.”

I’ll try not to.

Jesse,

That’s a perfect example of what people should be doing to increase their subscriber base. It’s getting harder for people to “bribe” their readers to subscribe because of all the new blogs popping up every day and people not as willing to sign up for them all for fear of information overload (plus it’s really time consuming to keep up with them all). Having that added incentive not only encourages people to subscribe, but it shows that they’re appreciated.
