That was a good resource, of course Notepad++ is a must have, I have Gimp on my computer and would like to get more accustomed to it but its hard to force myself to use it when photoshop is right there, it is good for saving in the ico format for favicons, if it only supported Animated PNG files I might bring myself to use it more often, paint.net is a simpler graphic program for windows users which also supports layers.
